Fan Demographic Journal & Discussion

Journal Entry: Sun Nov 22, 2009, 4:05 PM

Ad augusta per angusta

First of all, a happy early Thanksgiving everybody.

Secondly... I've been putting some thought behind you guys. Who are you? Why do you watch me? What appeals? These are the questions buzzing in my head. I stand by my earlier declaration of seeking to only do art to please me, but in my quest for inspiration, I'm interesting in people's interests. Where am I strong? Where do I lack? Do I paint too many Transformers? Doesn't mean I'll stop, but it's certainly interesting to see what people think.

So I'm doing a bunch of polls, which many of you already partook (thank you!), to help me get a picture of what my audience consists of. It's very educational and I thank you for your participation. I'm hoping to steer any discussion you guys might have here to this journal. Feel free to tell me about yourselves... what interests/appeals to you in my artwork... Suggestions or critiques that may guide me along my quest... perhaps things you yourself have already quested upon. Y'know... Tell me things you like in art. Do I capture this? Should I? I think you get the idea. The purpose here is to help me understand you guys, and understand why on earth you guys like my work. lol. And maybe... maybe bribe me into doing something you want me to do. (to a certain someone out there ~ Ratchet is poking me in the back of the brain)

(BTW, four of you so far voted that you're female and interested. My curiousity is buzzing. I only know who one of you are. lol)

Furnulum pani nolo

Working tirelessly to push art out! Hopefully Monday I can finish the vampire picture...

Gonna start sketching more and doing light and anatomy studies to help me build up my foundations. Also going to try more speedpaints and one-a-day paintings.

Two new things in the gallery!

A Declaration of Intent

Journal Entry: Mon Oct 12, 2009, 11:19 PM

Si vis pacem, para bellum

I've come to the decision that I've been trying to appease people with my art... and since it's MY art, I find that stupid, as it's just making me frustrated and suffocated. If you like it, great. If you have an idea or suggestion, feel free to share it, but I won't feel required to meet it. If you're offended, I am sorry. If you missed the humor.... well, you've probably got more sanity than I do. If you'd rather I'd've done it THIS or THAT way or I should paint THIS or THAT.... pay or bribe me, I'm open for commissions. ;)

On the concept of bribery: I have no idea! Rather open to ideas here. Suggest possible bribes!

Paintmeggedon '09 to do, in order of priority:

:bulletpurple:Monster Maternity ~ Giving birth to an odd child indeed. Gore, nudity, humor.
:bulletpurple:Saving the Maiden ~ Hero arrives seconds too late to save the young lady from the voluptuous vampress' fangs.
:bulletpurple:Pirates for Dinner ~ A giant squid attacks a pirate ship! I'm painting pirates!
:bulletpurple:Sneak Attack ~ A group of soldiers crash in the forest as a monster picks them off, one by one...
:bulletpurple:Sexy Mobster ~ Mostly for fun. Series of female mobster as depicted through the ages in pin-up style of the 20's to contemporary.
:bulletpurple:There is No Spoon ~ Man killed by spoon. Popular culture references of I, Robot, Matrix, and The Tick.
:bulletpurple:Dracula's Curse ~ Castlevania fan art of the third game, in favor of the new animated movie in progress.
:bulletpurple:More Autobots, Simon's Quest, Ninjas vs Pirates ~ to come down the road!

The Big Switcheroo!

Journal Entry: Thu Sep 3, 2009, 3:46 PM

Why Look, A New Journal...

Well, ok... first the quick updates:

Still haven't restored CS2 to working capacity, but awaiting friend to mail me the CD.
Still haven't located my lost CS3 disc. I promise I'm looking.
On Monday, I'm going to download and install the 30-day free trial of the full version of PSCS4. So for one month, at least, I can paint again.

Priorities, however, have shifted! School project demands I do five paintings by the end of November. Here's the new To-Do list:

FOR SCHOOL:
Monster Maternity ~ Giving birth to an odd child indeed.
Sexy Mobster Pin-up ~ Almost by forced happenstance, and largely for fun/practice.
There is No Spoon ~ Man killed by spoon.
Race Thingy ~ I just want to paint speeder bikes, really.
Squid Attack ~ Think Kraken.

FOR PAINTMEGGEDON:
Autobots ~ Will be very quickly finished, I suspect.
Killer Worms ~ Got new inspiration for it!
Dracula's Curse ~ Also to be quickly finished.
Turguin Attack ~ Canceled in favor of the Squid Attack.

FOR RIGHTAFTER:
More Autobots, Simon's Quest

An update on Life, Art, and Business

Wed Aug 19, 2009, 4:28 PM
#1: Progress on painting is on hold due to new computer problem. Might be a few days, might be a few weeks. Bah!
#2: I've begun my final semester of undergraduate school!
#3: I choose to skip #3!
#4: I intend to fix my website very soon. I basically have to remake it. This is also delayed by Photoshop being down. I think, but perhaps not.

#5: Here's a list of what art I'm working on, and some neat concepts I want to work with:

In progress:
"Autobots" ~ You saw the preview before... basically me re-designing Transformers to suit my desires. Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Jazz, Ratchet, Ironhide. It's not intended as a G1 meets Movie, it's just Transformers redone in my own style, with influences pulled from all versions of Transformers over 20 years. Really close to being done, mostly just have to finish Jazz.

"More Autobots" ~ Because I had an urge to draw Sideswipe, reaaaal bad. Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, Tracks, Cliffjumper, Prowl, Arcee.

"Killer Worms" ~ My lil B Movie idea come to life. Lot of it is complete, but it's giving me some difficulty.

"Dracula's Curse" ~ Castlevania fanart celebrating chiefly the new Animated Movie/trilogy being written by Warren Ellis based around the game of the same name (CVIII for the NES), but also for the new PS3 Castlevania game, which largely seems like a reboot of sorts, and the newly announced Live-Action movie, which has a chance of sucking.

"Monster Maternity" ~ A scene of a woman giving birth to a strange creature... which seems eager to strangle the doctor delivering it. Will be awesome.

No longer pursuing:
"Turguin" ~ Just too many problems. I might re-invent it later on.

Really want to get started on:

Sexy Mobster Pinup ~ Just one of those things that starts from buying my friend a hat in Wal-Mart.... Yes, a sexy GIRL mobster. With a Tommy gun.

Upcoming once I do this other crap:

"Even More Autobots" ~ Grimlock, Blades, Bluestreak, Hound, Mirage, Warpath.

"Decepticons, More Decepticons, Even More Decepticons" ~ Lol, Probably won't be doing all three, as I plan to use fewer Decepticons than Autobots. I'll be showing a lot more creative thinking in these characters, and you'll notice some more nods to other-than-G1, like Armada, Movie, and Animated. But an idea of characters: Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave/Ravage/Laserbeak/Frenzy, Onslaught, Barricade, Scourge, Astrotrain, Reflector, Demolisher, Lockdown.

"Simon's Quest" ~ Another Castlevania fanart centered around the original Castlevania, the CV: Chronicles remake, the Super CVIV remake, and CVII: Simon's Quest. Probably feature something like Simon Belmont, Count Dracula, and memorable villians like Medusa, bats, frog man, mermen, skeletons, etc etc.

"There is No Spoon" ~ A man has been murdered... with a spoon! Crime scene investigation that lets me push as many references to 'spoon' in popular culture as possible; Matrix, I Robot, The Tick...

Promises of:
Classic Horror ~ Vampires, Werewolves, Frankenstein... something in that realm. Most likely in black and white, or some such monochromatic style.

Something cyberpunkishy ~ I have no idea yet. Maybe more in theme with Blade Runner.

Pirates vs Ninjas ~ 'nuff said.
